A New Hope For Presbyopes
Varilux lenses are an exciting new weapon in the fight against presbyopia (a natural eye condition that affects the eye's ability to bring near objects into focus). These lenses use revolutionary technology so presbyopes can see near, far, and everything in between.
Millions of people with presbyopia or Long-Arm Eyes™ including current bifocal and trifocal wearers now see the way they were meant to again thanks to these amazing eyeglasses.
Take Comfort
Varilux lenses enable your eyes to make a smooth, gradual transition when you change your focus from near to intermediate to far vision. Unlike bifocal lenses, Varilux lenses eliminate the line that creates an abrupt, annoying vision change from near to far vision.
The added comfort of Varilux is achieved with an increased field of vision. This larger vision field reduces unnecessary head movements both vertically and horizontally, which means you can assume a more natural, comfortable posture when viewing objects at close and intermediate ranges.
The Real Thing
The first Varilux lens was pioneered over 40 years ago. Since then, Varilux has steadily refined and improved their lens designs. Varilux lenses are the most technologically advanced progressive lenses available in the world.
There are many attempts to duplicate Varilux technology by lower-quality imitations on the market. But you should know that the latest generation of Varilux lenses are protected by eight patents – one is pending. So when you wear Varilux, you are guaranteed the best technology available for treating presbyopia.
To be sure that you are wearing genuine Varilux lenses, ask your eye care professional for the Certificate of Authenticity that accompanies your lenses.
Or simply look for the Varilux reference mark on the lenses.
You'll find it midway vertically on each lens, in toward the nasal side of the lens. The mark is a lowercase "e" shown either inside an oval or within brackets. Your eye care professional can help you locate this engraving.
The Varilux Authenticity Guarantee
Most Varilux lenses are designed with a new technology called Airmark, visible only when you breathe on the front of your lenses or expose them to steam. As the technology availability grows, more Varilux lenses will have the Airmark. If you don't see the Varilux Airmark, check your authenticity card and Varilux reference mark toward the nasal side of the lens, or talk to your eye care professional to ensure you've received authentic Varilux lenses.
Varilux Lenses: The Right Fit For You
Varilux, the most prescribed progressive lens in the world, provides clear, crisp fields of vision near, far and everything in between – through any part of the lens. Our patented technology lets your eyes sweep more smoothly through the periphery of the lens, a potential trouble spot. The result is that you will recognize objects more clearly and quickly in your peripheral vision.
To make sure that your lenses fit your very specific lifestyle needs, Varilux lenses are available in different coatings and materials that will reduce both thickness and weight.
Varilux lenses also come with scratch resistance and ultraviolet protection.
Adjusting To Varilux Lenses
Progressive lenses will introduce some changes to your peripheral vision due to power changes that occur in the periphery of the lenses. You may feel an initial difference in your peripheral vision that will require some slight changes in horizontal head and eye movements. Sensitivity to this area of the lens will diminish with wearing time as you become more accustomed to the lenses.
These guidelines will help you adjust quickly and comfortably:
- Stop wearing your old glasses immediately.
- Wear your new glasses high on the bridge of your nose and as close to your face as possible.
- To look at an object, turn your head (and not just your eyes) toward it.
- Move your head vertically until the object glides into focus.
For most, this period of adaptation will be only a few hours. Some individuals may require as much as several days to two weeks to become completely comfortable. If you have been wearing your lenses for this period of time or longer and feel uncomfortable in any way with your vision, contact your eye care professional for an evaluation.
